The Cincinnati Bengals are getting ready for Week 1, which means you are likely getting ready for Week 1 in your fantasy leagues. It is one of those things that has practically become synonymous with most fans nowadays.
Last year, the Bengals didn’t help anyone in fantasy (except maybe if their players were going against Cincinnati). It certainly feels like that is going to change with Joe Burrow healthy again with a plethora of weapons around him.
What player has the potential to be the most valuable player for fantasy players though now that most leagues have conducted their drafts?
Burrow should be in line for a great season, however, it is incredibly hard to be considered the most valuable piece of a fantasy team as a quarterback when there are so many good ones available. Even if he has a top 10 season, even in a 12 team league that only goes so far for moving the needle for a fantasy team.
More likely, a skill position player may end up catching fire and having a great season for your fantasy team. The most loaded position is at wide receiver where Tyler Boyd and Tee Higgins are returning with former Burrow teammate at LSU, Ja’Marr Chase.
Chase has had issues in the preseason, but it isn’t that hard to see he and Burrow catching up where they left off eventually. Boyd should also be a point per reception as he has shown he already has a connection over the middle as one of the most reliable slot receivers.
Higgins may be the receiver with the most room to grow. It took him most of 2020 to have the game slow down for him, and he has apparently spent most of this offseason bulking up his slimmer frame.
These three wide receivers all have cases for having good seasons, but they do sort of hold each other back as far as consistency. Any one of these guys could explode for 200 yards and a couple of touchdowns, or they could have a pedestrian day with only a few catches.
The biggest name and question mark this season for the Bengals in fantasy is Joe Mixon at running back. He certainly hasn’t made any fantasy players happy the past couple of seasons. He has had issues getting through an offensive line that struggled. He is now reunited with offensive line coach Frank Pollack who helped build a line that had Mixon leading the AFC in rushing in 2018. The question is can they replicate that magic again?
Do you think Burrow can crack into that upper echelon of fantasy quarterbacks? Can any of the receivers outpace Mixon, or is there a dark horse you think is being overlooked? Let us know in the poll below and in the comments section!
