Cincy Jungle staff picks for Thursday Night Football and open thread

A classic AFC West rivalry game is on tap this Thursday night.

Even though quarterback issues headline this Thursday Night Football contest, they still bring the luster with their trademark divisional rivalry games. One such is on tap this week as the Las Vegas Raiders host the Los Angeles Chargers.

Both teams are on the outside of the AFC playoff race looking in with a couple of 5-8 records. They’ve also both experienced varying quarterback problems this year, with Justin Herbert recently landing on IR and the Jimmy Garoppolo experiment flopping out in the desert.

Davante Adams is still on pace for another 1,000-yard receiving season, despite the carousel under center between Garoppolo and Aidan O’Connell. The rookie quarterback has shown both sparks and expected issues, posting four touchdowns against just seven interceptions this year.

Stepping in for Herbert is Easton Stick, a fifth-round pick by the Chargers back in 2019. He posted a 78.3 passer rating last week against Denver, so he is looking to improve as he collects starts, a la Jake Browning here in Cincinnati.

Las Vegas is -3 at home this Thursday Night, per DraftKings, but with the aforementioned quarterback situations, anything could go here. A win by either team would technically keep their playoff hopes alive, but they’d need a lot of help with the mishmash of conference teams hovering around .500 and seeking a backdoor entrance to the bracket.

The Raiders have the overall edge in the series, holding a 67-58-2 record versus the Chargers all-time, including a 1-1 historical split in the postseason. The Chargers got the best of Las Vegas earlier this year in Los Angeles, 24-17, back in October. Despite the records and missing stars, emotions will be high in this rivalry game for sure.

Here’s how the Cincy Jungle staff sees things playing out on Thursday night and this week.

This will also be tonight’s open thread, so come join the fun!
