With Joe Burrow out for the year, backup quarterback Jake Browning has helped keep the Cincinnati Bengals’ playoff hopes alive.
The veteran has flown under the radar as an inexperienced backup since he entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2019, but now we’re learning more about him both on and off the field.
Bengals star receiver Ja’Marr Chase provided some insight into Browning’s personality in comparison to Burrow.
“Jake’s more playful than Burrow. Jake’s gonna smile with you on the regular,” Chase said.” Joe’s just gonna walk past you, look at you, and then keep going. Joe’s just more tunnel vision than Jake. If I could describe the difference, I would say Joe comes to work in a suit and a tie. Jake comes to work in a suit with no tie.”
Browning has completed 75.5% of his passes for 934 yards and five touchdowns on just two interceptions so far in his new role.
He’ll face his former team, the Minnesota Vikings, Saturday night as the Bengals look to move to 8-6 on the year and potentially into the AFC Wild Card standings.
