DJ Reader is done for the season.

According to NFL Network reporter Ian Rapoport, Reader suffered a torn quad tendon in the Bengals’ overtime win over the Vikings.

Reader’s 2023 season, and he now heads into the 2024 offseason with much uncertainty as to how the rest of his career will play out.

Here’s to hoping for a speedy recovery and a return to game action in time for the 2024 season.

The Cincinnati Bengals defense may have just suffered a major loss.

In the first quarter of the team’s Week 15 matchup with the Minnesota Vikings, star defensive tackle DJ Reader went down with a lower-body injury on just the second play of the game.

After being down for several minutes, Reader had to be carted off the field and into the locker room for further examination. The team has already ruled him out with a right knee injury.

If this turns out to be a significant injury, it would be a brutal loss for the Bengals defense and potentially Reader’s pocket. The 29-year-old is set to be a free agent next offseason and was having the kind of year that would have likely led to a nice payday.

With Reader out, the Bengals will have to rely heavily on Josh Tupou to pick up the slack on the interior defensive line.
