The Cincinnati Bengals’ worst fears have been realized.

On Sunday, head coach Zac Taylor announced that standout defender DJ Reader is done for the season after tearing his quad vs. the Minnesota Vikings.

The Bengals have also lost rookie cornerback DJ Ivey to a season-ending ACL tear.

As for Ja’Marr Chase, the superstar wideout is day-to-day due to an AC joint sprain.

Ivey and Reader were both injured in the first quarter of Saturday’s overtime win over Minnesota. Reader was injured on the first defensive series, while Ivey was injured while attempting to make a tackle on the punt coverage team.

What’s really unfortunate is that these are the kinds of injuries that have an extended rehab process, so it’s possible one or both of them won’t be ready for training camp next summer and could be sidelined into the early part of the regular season.

As for Chase, this will be a tricky injury to deal with that could cost him Week 16 vs. the Pittsburgh Steelers. It shouldn’t end his regular season, but the Bengals will be hard-pressed to make the NFL Playoffs if Chase misses several games.

Hopefully, he’ll be back sooner rather than later.
