The Eagles may have their spot clinched before even playing, but they need to keep pace with the San Francisco 49ers for the No. 1 spot in the NFC. They also need to stay ahead of the Dallas Cowboys, who are currently (10-4). Essentially, Philadelphia could end up having a bye and homefield advantage throughout the playoffs, or they could be forced to be a Wild Card and not have a guaranteed home game.
On theme for the year of the backup quarterback, we may also get to watch two backups this week. Jalen Hurts has a pretty bad illness that had him travel separately from the team to Seattle. Geno Smith remains questionable with a groin injury that held him out of last week’s game. This could easily end up as a duel between Marcus Mariota and Drew Lock in prime time.
That certainly favors the Eagles slightly, as their running game has been able to move the ball pretty well and can be leaned on with D’Andre Swift. Outside of that, both teams have incredible skill position players to surround what could likely be two backups.
These teams have recently struggled with getting behind early and not being able to get their pass rush going. Both of these defenses are pretty well-built to play with the lead (or at least from the defensive lines’ points of view. This could be a matter of which team can avoid that big mistake to set the other team up with a lead.
