The Cincinnati Bengals were dealt a huge blow when they lost defensive tackle DJ Reader during the team’s overtime win over the Minnesota Vikings. The defensive line was able to rally and make some big plays, including a third-and-one and fourth-and-one attempt in overtime, which gave Jake Browning and the offense the chance to drive down the field and win the game.
Reader’s loss, despite the win, is felt very much by this defense, and in an attempt to mitigate the issues that will come from his absence, the Bengals put in a waiver claim on Tennessee Titans defensive tackle Teair Tart. Unfortunately, the Houston Texans had a higher priority than the Bengals and landed Tart instead.

Both the Bengals and Browns put in a claim on new Texans DT Teair Tart, with Houston having top priority.
According to Field Yates, the Bengals and Texans weren’t the only teams interested, as there were “a handful of teams” that placed a claim on the defensive tackle, including the Cleveland Browns.
Tart was waived by the Titans after four years after he reportedly requested to be released.
appreciate the Titans respecting my request for the release!!!! Looking forward for my next— TEAIR TART (@speedboy_te75) December 15, 2023
Through Week 14, PFF has Tart graded 57.6 overall defensive grade with a 51.6 grade in run defense and a 64.9 grade as a pass rusher.
Here’s to hoping the Bengals can overcome the loss of Reader with other guys already on the roster.
