Bengals are one of 24 teams with playoff hopes, the most in 20 years entering Week 17

It’s been a weird year, but no matter how things play out, the next two weekends are going to be crazy

Heading into the last two weeks of the 2023 NFL regular season, there are still 24 teams with a shot at making it into the playoffs.

According to NFL Senior Vice President Michael Signora, that’s the most teams eligible for a spot in the playoffs at this point in the season since 2004.

The Cincinnati Bengals are one of those 24 teams.

The AFC itself is still pretty wide open as only two teams have clinched a playoff spot, the Ravens (12-3) and Dolphins (11-3).

Next up in the rankings are the Chiefs and Jaguars, who are both currently leading their divisions, but haven’t locked them up yet.

Then the Browns, Bills, and Colts round out the seven AFC Wild Card spots. As of now, the Texans, Bengals, Steelers, Raiders, and Broncos are ranked eighth through 12th and are all still alive.

Things are much more locked down in the NFC. The 49ers, Eagles, Lions, and Cowboys have already locked up playoff spots. The Buccaneers are currently leading the NFC South, but haven’t locked it up yet, and the Rams and Seahawks are currently holding on to the other two Wild Card spots (the Cowboys hold the other one).

Like the AFC, the NFC still has five teams in the hunt. The Vikings, Packers, Saints, Falcons, and Bears are all still on the bubble and are all still alive.

There are only eight teams that are officially eliminated right now:

  1. Jets
  2. Titans
  3. Chargers
  4. Patriots
  5. Giants
  6. Commanders
  7. Cardinals
  8. Panthers

According to the NFL’s playoff picture website, the Bengals currently have a 25% chance of making the playoffs. That drops to 8% if they lose to the Chiefs, but it goes up to 58% if they win.
