With playoff games being played, it is a great time to see players against top competition, some of whom the Bengals could be watching.
Cowboys OT Tyron Smith
The Bengals could potentially be losing one of their starting offensive tackles in free agency this year and knowing the team, they wouldn’t want to go into the draft with a big hole at a position like that. One of the best options available as a stopgap would definitely be Dallas’ Tyron Smith.
Smith has primarily been a left tackle in his career, but he has played right tackle when required and definitely could if signed as a free agent. He will be 33 and has had some injury struggles, but when he has played it has largely still been really good.
Cowboys OT Chuma Edoga
I listed Edoga at OT, but in his career in Dallas, he has played all over the line. Playing both offensive tackle positions and LG as a reserve lineman. That would be the role he would be signed to play in Cincinnati, as the sixth man, first off the bench in the case of an injury.
Adding depth to the OL would be great, as the team had a great run of health for the OL in 2023, but that likely isn’t sustainable. He also could be a candidate to take over right tackle if it isn’t solved with a higher-cost option.
As the Cowboys’ main reserve OL, it is possible Edoga won’t play at all in the playoff game, but he has gotten a good amount of playing time already this season, so it is very possible.
Packers S Darnell Savage
A former first round pick who started his career out very promising, Savage has been disappointing the last couple of years. A versatile player with experience playing in the box and as a single high free safety, he is the exact kind of reclamation project that could pay dividends for the Bengals.
Adding Savage and cutting Nick Scott shouldn’t add too much to the cap, and Savage offers much more coverage upside and versatility. With his ability to play single high, Lou Anarumo will be able to be much more creative with his safeties, which is something he loves to do.
