Along with the announcement that Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict was named the AFC Defensive Player of the Week, the NFL also announced that safety Tony Dye and linebacker Jayson DiManche were two of five players nominated for the AFC Special Player of the Week.
DiManche blocked a second quarter Spencer Lanning punt that Dye returned 24 yards for a touchdown.
Indianapolis Colts place-kicker Adam Vinatieri won the award after converting all three field goal attempts of 48, 30, and 50 yards. The 50-yarder is Vinatieri's fourth 50-plus yarder of the season, tied for most in a single-season of his career and the second-most in the NFL this season. This is Vinatieri's 14th career special teals player of the week, surpassing John Carney and Devin Hester.
