NFL preseason Week 2: Bengals’ MVP vs. Cowboys

New, comments

It was an ugly win, but some Bengals players managed to stand out in the team’s preseason win against Dallas.

Though the issues that arose in the Bengals’ win over the Cowboys have been well-documented over the past couple of days, there were some solid individual performances. However, this week it was the reserve players who made the biggest impact.

Cast your vote for the Bengals’ preseason Week 2 MVP and sound off in the comments on your selection!

Brian Hill: The reserve running back closed out the game in a very strong way. Though he only had two carries for 12 yards, he was a spark plug in the receiving game. Hill had two catches—one that went for 44 yards and one that went into the end zone.

Tra Carson: The other second-year back appears to have the inside track for the fourth running back spot, but we’ll see. He did make a strong case for himself on Saturday evening though, grinding out 24 yards and a touchdown on six attempts.

Alex Erickson: The talk of the preseason for the Bengals’ offense has been John Ross, Tyler Eifert, Josh Malone and Auden Tate, but Erickson has quietly made some great plays in the first two preseason games. As a return man, Erickson had two nice punt returns, including a 19-yarder.

On offense, he had just two catches, but boy, did he make them count. His 28-yard, toe-tap reception was a thing of beauty and set up the Bengals for the Carson touchdown in the third quarter.

Jon Brown: Marvin Lewis says there isn’t any kicking competition occurring this summer, but Brown is at least making things interesting. The former Louisville soccer star had a great night against the Cowboys with a bunch of opportunities.

The second-year kicker was 1-of-1 on extra points and 2-of-2 on field goals. The highlight was Brown booting a 55-yard field goal, which isn’t exactly the norm in Bengaldom.

Jordan Willis: In 2017, the Bengals used two draft picks on exciting edge rushers in Willis and Carl Lawson. The latter had a breakout rookie campaign, while Willis struggled to get playing time and create plays.

On Saturday, Willis shined, as he did in last year’s preseason. He racked up three total tackles (all for loss) and two sacks.
