The Cincinnati Bengals will host the San Diego Chargers on Sunday, January 5, at 1:00 p.m. on CBS, according to multiple sources.
Cincinnati secured the No. 3 seed on Sunday after eliminating the Baltimore Ravens with a 34-17 win at Paul Brown Stadium. The Bengals nearly slid into the second seed, had the Buffalo Bills defeated the New England Patriots. However the Buffalo Bills struggled to capitalize on their opportunities, eventually calling it quits during a 34-20 loss in New England.
San Diego was nearly bounced on a last-second game-winning field goal attempt. However Kansas City Chiefs place kicker Ryan Succop pushed the 41-yard attempt wide right and sending the game into overtime. San Diego opened the overtime scoring with a field goal. Kansas City's ensuing possession reached the 41-yard line, but the failed fourth down conversion gave San Diego the 27-24 win in overtime.
The last time these two teams met in the playoffs was the '81 AFC Championship game, also known as the Freezer Bowl, which Cincinnati won 27-7.
