Ol' Mojokong with a Bengals preview

An old friend at CJ is writing for a newspaper these days and offered up a Bengals preview -- not that favorable, if you tend to take previews too hard.

Believe it or not, there are alumni at Cincy Jungle. Some have moved on to SB Nation's dot com mothership, and one even worked for Pro Football Focus for a spell. It's like a coaching tree. Mojokong, who spent years with us doing preview essays, moved his talents to a newspaper called the River City News (a small newspaper that covers Covington, Kentucky). And he previewed Cincinnati's game against the New England Patriots.

Typically, the way this universe works, is that a high-riding Bengals team gets knocked down a peg from a perennial contender on national prime-time television. Typically, they are humbled with a tough loss in October that complicates their playoff seeding come January. Throughout the Marvin Lewis era, his team has often been solid, even very good, but never a powerhouse. This year, they appear better built than they ever have before—lock solid in every phase. Seeing is believing, though, and I've been tricked into this euphoric optimism in the past. Trends may be broken, but remain trends until they do.

Give him a couple of clicks.
