Bengal place Leon Hall on IR and sign J.K. Schaffer off the practice squad

The Cincinnati Bengals finally placed Hall on IR, but they didn't activate wide receiver Andrew Hawkins. Instead they needed help on defense where several players suffered injuries last week.

Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Leon Hall has been placed on season-ending Injured Reserve, the team announced on Tuesday. Hall tore his Achilles tendon in the first half against the Detroit Lions while attempting to cover Calvin Johnson in the endzone. It's believed that he had undergone a procedure to repair his Achilles on Monday.

It was thought that wide receiver Andrew Hawkins would eventually take Hall's spot on the 53-man roster. However with linebacker Rey Maualuga and safety Taylor Mays suffering injuries against the New York Jets on Sunday, both of whom will be out this Thursday against the Miami Dolphins, the team needed defensive help. They promoted linebacker J.K. Schaffer from the practice squad.

This is the second time that Schaffer has been called up from the practice squad. He was promoted hours before the team's week two game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, returning to the practice squad later that week. Schaffer is also a strong special teams player.

Cincinnati also announced that DeQuin Evans has been waived. Evans recently completed an eight-game suspension for violating the league's policy on performance-enhancing substances. Once he clears waivers, it's believed that he'll be re-signed to the team's practice squad (possibly).
