The Cincinnati Bengals announced on Tuesday that they're waived running back Bernard Scott from the team's Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform list. Cincinnati re-signed Scott to a one-year deal on April 12, despite the running back undergoing rehabilitation for a torn ACL against the Miami Dolphins last season. The release could suggest that Scott wouldn't have been ready week seven, when he's eligible to return to the 53-man roster (which was a long shot anyway).
Scott, a former sixth-round pick, spent four seasons with the Bengals playing 47 games with three starts. He posted 1,035 yards rushing in his career while scoring four touchdowns, mostly all in 2011 when he set career highs in yards (380) and touchdowns (3).
Recovering and rehabilitating from a torn ACL over the offseason, Scott was sidelines throughout training camp and the preseason before he was eventually placed on Reserve PUP.
Since Scott didn't count against the 53-man roster, no corresponding move is expected .
The move is the second in as many days, following J.K. Schaffer's promotion to the 53-man roster. The team released safety and special teams ace Jeromy Miles, who had been dealing with a hamstring.
