The Cincinnati Bengals played host to Kansas State safety Ty Zimmerman on Thursday, according to Aaron Wilson with the National Football Post (and the Baltimore Sun).
Zimmerman, a four-year starter, intercepted three passes in 2013, returning two for a touchdown. He finished his collegiate career with 257 tackles, 24 passes defensed and 13 picks (which ranks third in school history).
Bengals defensive backs coach Mark Carrier attended Kansas State's Pro Day last month, specifically checking out Zimmerman, who is viewed as a late-round pick or an undrafted free agent.
ESPN ranks Zimmerman, a two-time First-Team All-Big 12 player (Associated Press), as the 19th-best safety entering the 2014 NFL Draft. Not impressed with his cover skills, saying that his "closing burst is average but lacks elite recovery speed", ESPN praises his instincts and recognition.
Strong FBIs and diagnostic skills. Good understanding of leverage and constantly maintains solid positioning. Flashes the ability to ancticipate and get an early break on routes. Shows good eyes in coverage both marking targets and keying quarterbacks eyes. Adequate instincts as a run defender.
