Bengals vs. Ravens: Four sit during Thursday's practice

Four Bengals players sat during Thursday's practice and Vontaze Burfict is doing some work on the side.

Mitch Stringer-USA TODAY Sports

Now that Christmas is over, the players and coaches reconvened for a Thursday morning session to get ready for the Baltimore Ravens.

Terence Newman (knee), Devon Still (back), Jermaine Greham (hamstring) and Tyler Eifert (neck) didn't practice, and Vontaze Burfict is doing work on the side -- presumably part of the concussion protocol process that requires players to increase their heart-rate to see if any concussion symptoms appear. If it's the last stage of the protocol, figure that he'll be cleared at some point Thursday afternoon or Friday morning.

Gresham would appear as a downgrade after being listed as a limited participant during Tuesday's session. Along with his injury being defined as a "hamstring", Gresham has been dealing with a hip issue for a couple of weeks.

Since there was no mention of tight end Alex Smith from the local beat writers, we can assume that he's passed his own concussion protocols.
