The draft ended and the Bengals kept right on adding defensive talent.

The Cincinnati Bengals only drafted six players this year, but they added many more rookies than that. Here is a look at the defensive undrafted free agents that the team will bring into camp in 2022 along with one special teams UDFA and a defensive rookie with professional experience in Germany.

Tariqious Tisdale is just the type of versatile defensive lineman that the Bengals love. He is a bit undersized, but still has the strength to hold his own on the interior. Tisdale has a great burst off the line, which could make him a valuable interior pass rusher. He also does a good job of holding the edge against the run.

In this clip, he uses a push-pull move to come inside the offensive tackle and make the tackle for a loss.

Tisdale’s biggest issue in college was staying healthy, and his availability will be his most important ability as he looks to make a name for himself in Cincinnati. With a wealth of young talent, there will be fierce competition on the defensive line, but if Tisdale gets an opportunity, he could be a surprise member of the 2022 Bengals.

He has excellent burst and explosion, the combination of which led to 10.5 sacks last season.

In this clip, he uses an inside move to get by the offensive tackle, but when the quarterback escapes the pocket, Hicks gets back outside and runs him down.

Carson Wells is a very consistent player who does just about everything well, a combination that the Bengals will find very attractive. He has shown some flashes as a pass-rusher, with 12 sacks over the last two seasons. He also performs well on coverage and has good ball skills.

That is evident in this clip, where Wells makes a very acrobatic play and comes away with the pick and almost makes it to the end zone.

It will be tough to make this roster as a linebacker where the Bengals are young and deep, but Wells brings some nice things to the table. His best chance will be standing out on special teams.

Hood played a heavy dose of press-man in college, and shined in this role. In this clip, he showcases his man coverage skills against the fade route.

Hood is impressive on film, but it will be a big leap from the NAIA to the NFL. His motor and physical toughness will give him a shot to stick around and possibly contribute as a special-teamer.

Did the Bengals find another offensive weapon AFTER the draft was over?

The NFL Draft is huge, but it is not the only way for a player to get into the league.

The Cincinnati Bengals added a number of other rookies through free agency. These undrafted free agents will have an uphill battle to make the team, but the Bengals found a few with big potential.

Let’s take a look at the Bengals’ 2022 offensive UDFAs.

Ben Brown – offensive guard/center – 6’5” 312 - Ole Miss

Ben Brown was one of my favorite Day 3 interior offensive line targets, and the Bengals managed to get him without using a pick.

Brown is excellent in pass protection. He has good feet and picks up both blitzes and twists nicely. He gets movement in the run game, but leans on the defender at times, and can lose his balance as a result. This is something that can be fixed with hard work and good coaching.

In the clip above, he shows off his pass protection skills. He kicks out wide from his right guard position, picking up the defensive end who has stunted into the B-gap. As the defender tries to get by him to both the inside and the outside, Brown keeps his feet moving and stays between the defender and the quarterback.

The Bengals have a lot of young talent on the interior line, but Brown could very much be in the mix for a roster spot. He may find himself in direct completion with second-year center Trey Hill to back up Ted Karras at center.

Shermari Jones – running back – 6’ 215 - Coastal Carolina

The Bengals found a lot of talent when they visited Coastal Carolina this year. Not only did they draft Jeffery Gunter, they acquired two of his teammates as undrafted free agents.

Shermari Jones is a true one-cut, downhill runner. He runs with power and high-steps over defenders who try to take him on low. His jump cuts are phenomenal, and often kick-start a big play. That is exactly what happens in this clip.

Jones jump cuts in the backfield, then he gets immediately downhill. He hurdles one defender who is foolish enough to dive for his feet. Two more defenders have a chance to make the stop. He sets up the first one to the inside, before juking outside. The second one he simply outruns to the end zone.

Jones has some skill as a runner, but his ability to make this team will likely come down to pass protection and special teams. He will need to shine in at least one of those areas during training camp.

In this clip, Heiligh hauls in the pass and makes a quick cut to get past the defender for a touchdown. He can play on the outside, but projects best as a backup to Tyler Boyd in the slot.

The wide receiver with the most buzz after OTA’s is Kwamie Lassiter. He is a shifty receiver who will likely be a slot in the NFL. He has some experience as a punt-returner, which may be of interest to special teams coordinator Darrin Simmons, a fellow for Jayhawk.

In this clip, he lines up outside and flies by the cornerback. He is able to make the catch between two defenders. Lassiter will need to stand out on special teams. It could be his ability to return punts that secures him a roster spot, but it will be an uphill battle to win the staff’s trust and win the punt returner job.

Although his timed speed is nothing to get excited about, Wisconsin often used him on end-arounds, and he did very well, averaging over ten yards-per-carry for his career.

In this clip, he drags his feet to make an excellent sideline catch. With a lot of competition at the position, Pryor will need to find a way to standout in order to stick around, but there is something intriguing about his game.

Jack Sorenson – wide receiver – 6’ 189 - Miami (Ohio)

Jack Sorenson has excellent concentration and makes a lot of catches in traffic. He does not have great speed and as a result he does not have a lot of yards after the catch. He is often able to get open, finding and sitting in holes in the secondary. Although he makes a lot of contested catches, he rarely does so by out-jumping the defender.

In this clip, he makes a really nice adjustment to bring the ball in. The defender cannot keep his feet and Sorenson turns up field for the touchdown.

The Bengals brought in a lot of wide receives, so Sorenson will have his work cut out for him as he tries to make the cut.

The Bengals signed a slew of undrafted free agents, but it was one that may have gone under the radar that is getting some attention.

The Cincinnati Bengals have signed a number of undrafted free agents since the draft. You can check out the list here.

Sure, there are a number of players who are flashier names at skill positions, but Good Morning Football has tabbed a name many may have scrolled past at as one of the best undrafted free agent signings, Pittsburgh long snapper Cal Adomitis.

“He played at Pittsburgh. He’s one of the leaders of the entire program. Last year, he cut off his hair and raised $117,000 for pediatric cancer research. He is one of those guys who profiles as a future Walter Payton Man of the Year candidate.

Something that has been incredibly important — from a player acquisition standpoint — is bringing in high character leaders for the locker room. It is safe to say that Adomitis fits that bill.

It also signals that the Bengals special teams unit is on its way for young turnover. It started with kicker Evan McPherson last season, and then the team continually holding onto punter Drue Chrisman for most of last season. Now it appears they are possibly planning for the future beyond 38-year-old Clark Harris who has been Kevin Huber’s biggest competition for most games as a Bengals on the current roster.

It would certainly be quite the changing of the guard having Huber and Harris move on after all these seasons of long snapping, punting and holding from the same two individuals. Not to mention that both have just been outstanding people during that time as well.

Harris would leave some serious shoes to fill, but Adomitis could be the man to fill them at some point down the road.

More reinforcements!

The Cincinnati Bengals continue to be active in adding rookie talent to the team in the post-draft free agent market.

This time, we have a wide receiver in the mix and, of course a defensive back. The just can’t seem to get enough defensive backs.

The receiver, Kendric Pryor is another Big Ten product for the team to add. Pryor appeared in 40 games with The University of Wisconsin, with 24 starts. Pryor comes off a senior season in which he hauled in 32 passes for 416 yards and three touchdowns.

The Badgers didn’t necessarily have phenomenal quarterback play last season, but Pryor was able to show flashes here and there. He will come to spring camps in hopes of finding a place for himself in the Bengals’ talented wide receiver room.

Of course, it wouldn’t be the Bengals if a defensive back wasn’t in the mix.

Since Day 1 of the draft, it is clear they are looking to stack talent in that department. The latest signee is defensive back Delonte Hood out of Peru State, per the school.

Hood, a junior played in 10 games last season with 21 total tackles, seven pass breakups, an interception, and one blocked kick.

After not getting an NFL Combine invite, the 5-foot-11, 192-pound Hood took part in the Nebraska Pro Day. He recorded a 4.38 40-yard dash, 4.20 20-yard shuttle, 6.84 3-cone drill, a 35-inch vertical, 10-foot-5 broad jump, and had 12 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press.

Coming from a small college many just learned about this offseason, Hood is facing an uphill battle in a defensive back group that is suddenly one of the deeper areas of the roster, Hood will have to make quite the impression this spring and summer just to earn a spot on the practice squad.

In the meantime, check out some highlights of both players.

Reese, who is notably 6-5 and 350 pounds, spent the 2020 and 2021 seasons as a starter for the Gators, all at the right guard position. While he was a staple in the starting lineup, his Pro Football Focus grades were less than desirable. He finished the 2021 season with a 55.5 grade and netted a 55.8 grade in 2020.

Reese was a graduate transfer originally from Mississippi State. A class of 2016 recruit of Dan Mullen’s, Reese followed Mullen to Florida after making the SEC Academic Honor Roll from 2016-18. He also played right tackle for Mississippi State before settling in at right guard.

As a tryout player, Reese will come in and compete for a spot on the Bengals’ 90-man roster and then do so again when training camp ensues in July.
