The wide receiver, out since the first practice at training camp with a bruised knee, will play this Saturday against the Dallas Cowboys.

When Bengals wide receiver A.J. Green landed awkwardly during the first training camp session -- what feels like six months ago -- the collective heartbeat in Cincinnati stop. Marvin Lewis sighed relief to Mike Zimmer during the first episode of Hard Knocks, "we dodged a bullet." Green, after declaring himself 100 percent, began practicing last week but sat during the team's second preseason game against the Tennessee Titans.

The question.

Will Green play Saturday?

"You can write that down," Lewis said after practice (via Bengals.com). "At some point you will see A.J. Green. He may be beside me in warmups. I think he's making the trip."

How much will he play?

"It's the number of snaps I have in mind. Each player has to be handled individually," Lewis said after Thursday's practice as he discussed the factors going into play time. "There's depth at the position and the player's experience."

Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver A.J. Green feels like he's back to 100 percent, but the Bengals are taking a cautious approach.

After spending nearly three weeks on the sidelines with a hyper-extended knee, Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver A.J. Green returned to practice on Wednesday in an extremely limited capacity. Most of the drills he performed during practice was limited to non-contact without any work during 11-on-11 sessions.

However, the team is taking a cautious approach with Green, who told reporters on Wednesday that he feels great.

"I am back to 100 percent," Green said via the Cincinnati Enquirer. "They just don’t want to throw me back just like this. As the days go on I am going to work my way back into them."

Green was one of nine players that stayed in Cincinnati when the team traveled to Atlanta last week for joint practices and the preseason opener on Thursday. After using team facilities to continue rehabilitation, Hard Knocks recorded Green watching the game from his home with teammate Andrew Hawkins, currently in a cast with an ankle injury.

"I have been away from the team for a long time so it's just good to be back out here with the team and the guys," Green said via Paul Dehner Jr.

A.J. Green could return as soon as this Wednesday after missing nearly three weeks with a bruised knee.

Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver A.J. Green may make his return to the field this Wednesday, according to Bengals.com. If he does practice, it will be his first session since twisting his knee after landing awkwardly during the team's first training camp practice nearly three weeks ago. Green was one of nine players that didn't bother making the trip to Atlanta to continue rehabilitation efforts in Cincinnati.

Even if he does practice, Green will only have three practices (Wednesday and Thursday) before the team hosts the Tennessee Titans this Saturday; and figure that Friday's practice will mostly be a walk-through. Based on Marvin Lewis' preference that players practice before playing games, I highly doubt the Bengals play Green this weekend.

Again. Even if he returns this Wednesday, the team will take an extremely cautious approach and once they're comfortable, we see the Bengals playing Green in a limited capacity against the Dallas Cowboys during the annual dress rehearsal in week three.

Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver A.J. Green will begin doing on-field work this week as the team ships off to Atlanta for the week.

Bengals wide receiver A.J. Green is slowly progressing, rehabilitating a bruised knee that he suffered during the first practice of training camp this year. Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis spent time with local reporters prior to Sunday's walkthrough practice, updating curious minds on his progress.

For the past few days Green has been "running in the pool", which he'll continue to be doing for the time being. However, Green will begin doing "on-field stuff this week" with the remainder of the team's training staff that's not leaving for Atlanta this week.

Green suffered a knee injury when he got tangled up with Terence Newman on a deep pass. When coming down on the practice field, Green twisted his knee. The team doesn't believe that Green will miss any regular season time, but the preseason might be another story as they ease him back with a careful approach rehabilitating his knee. Green won't be making the trip to Atlanta as the team prepares for their regular season opener this Thursday against the Falcons.

The Bengals have a handful of injured players that will be staying in Cincinnati to continue rehabilitation work.

The Cincinnati Bengals informed the local media on the players not traveling to Atlanta to play the Falcons this Thursday, which includes players like A.J. Green, Andrew Hawkins, and Brandon Thompson; all of whom suffered training camp injuries. Andrew Whitworth, who is reconditioning and strengthening his surgically repaired knee, is staying in Cincinnati.

Larry Black (ankle), Chris Pressley (PUP), Tyrone Goard (concussion), Alex Smith (knee), and Reid Fragel (knee) will also be staying behind. Black suffered the team's first major injury, who will be sidelines for the entire season. Goard suffered a concussion last Sunday, his first day after being activated from PUP, and hasn't practiced since. Smith and Fragel sat during Friday's practice with a knee.

The Bengals will practice for about an hour on Sunday starting at 12:45 p.m. They're traveling to Atlanta next week with a couple of non-live practices before the Falcons host the Bengals in the preseason opener Thursday night (ESPN).

According to Bengals.com editor Geoff Hobson, two of the better offensive players for Cincinnati aren't likely to be making the trip for the preseason opener in Atlanta.

When it comes to injuries that their players have sustained in the first week of Training Camp, the Bengals are playing it cautious. They are using the same practice with other veterans who had offseason procedures and are easing them in and out of practice.

Unfortunately, two of the team's most important players, wide receiver A.J. Green and left tackle Andrew Whitworth, fall into both of these respective categories. Green injured his knee while diving for a pass on the first day of camp and hasn't been back since. Whitworth had an offseason procedure to clean up a nagging knee issue. Green said a few days ago that his knee is "feeling much better now", while Whitworth claimed that his "knee feels good" and that he "just needs to strengthen it".

Now that the Bengals signed rookie free agent tackle Jason Weaver off of waivers from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday, as well as wide receiver Jheranie Boyd, Bengals.com editor Geoff Hobson believes that that is one omen that both Green and Whitworth won't be making the trip to Atlanta next week for the preseason opener.

It's a wise strategy to keep two of their best players rested and healthy for when the regular season begins in roughly five weeks. It's unclear if and when we'll see these two in the preseason. Let's just hope that the injury bug stays away from Cincinnati as much as possible.

After a brief scare on the first day of practice, the Bengals' star wide receiver, A.J. Green is resting his tweaked knee. There still is no timetable on his return as he recovers from a knee bruise.

With the excitement of the commencement of Training Camps around the league also comes some emotional roller coasters because of unfortunate injuries. In just the past couple of days, we have seen the Jets, Eagles and Ravens all lose heavy contributors for the entire season. It's a harsh reality that teams and fans must face when the pads come on.

The Bengals weren't immune to a scare themselves, as they almost lost one of their best players to a freak knee injury on the first day of practice. Luckily, A.J. Green suffered what has been deemed a "knee bruise", instead of something that initially looked much more severe. He has been sitting out the subsequent days of practice, and doesn't appear to know exactly when he'll be back.

Speaking with the media on Sunday, Green talked about his return and how the knee is feeling (via Jamison Hensley of ESPN). "We don't know yet. We're not going to rush it. We have time, so we're just going to play it by ear. But it's feeling much better now."

Phew.

As for his potential return to the lineup in time for the August 8th opener against the Atlanta Falcons, Green played that close to the vest as well.

"I'm not going to test it out no time soon," Green said. "We're just going to wait it out. The swelling is down, so it's all good."

Is there a chance Green could sit out the preseason opener in Atlanta in 11 days? "I don't know," Green said. "We'll see."

Truth be told, it's a wise approach. There isn't any need to rush Green back to potentially re-tweak the knee if hasn't fully healed. As was noted by Artrell Hawkins shortly after the injury occurred, these type of things could become somewhat chronic if not dealt with correctly, much like a separated shoulder and the like.

For now, let's be thankful that this wasn't a serious issue and let Green have his rest.
